Councillors in council tax arrears

james graham made this Freedom of Information request to Manchester City Council

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear Manchester City Council,

I'm interested to know if all councillors paid their council tax on time in 2017-18.

Please can you tell me:

How many councillors received reminder letters?

How many were summonsed to court?

How many of those cases went ahead?

And, how many councillors were barred from voting on the council's budget as a direct result of their own council tax affairs?

The names of those barred, if any?

Yours faithfully,

james graham

Dear Manchester City Council,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Manchester City Council's handling of my FOI request 'Councillors in council tax arrears'.

The initial part of my request was answered in full, but part of an answer to a follow up question was withheld.
I asked for the names of councillors sent reminders and summonsed to court.

One of those summonsed has been named but the other has been withheld, along with the identities of those sent reminders.

Why has information been withheld? Why hold back on one of those summonsed but not the other?

It doesn't make sense, and surely Manchester residents should be able to know which councillors aren't paying on time.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/c...

Yours faithfully,

james graham

Dear Information Compliance,

Hello,
I've requested an internal review over the information presented in this case, but I also would like to clarify the detail of your last answer.

I'd originally asked for the number of councillors who were late paying council tax in 2017-18. But in your answer dated March 19 you refer to 2018-19.

Can I check which year the figures relate to?
And if it is for 2018-19, what is the answer for 2017-18, including the names of the late paying councillors?

Yours sincerely,

james graham
