Council Owned Trees

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, Westminster City Council should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear Westminster City Council,

Please could you provide a data download of all of the trees which are currently owned / maintained by Westminster City Council.

It would be helpful if you could include the following data:
* the co-ordinates for each data point, either in lat/long or Easting/Northing.
* all data fields held by the council for each tree, such as species, common name, height, condition, age and site / street (if applicable).

The preferred format would be either a GIS shapefile (zipped file containing .shp .dbf .shx & .prj files) or .xlsx / .csv

Yours faithfully,

Harry Carnegie

FAO: Colin

Dear Colin,

Thank you for providing this data however unfortunately it appears that some information is missing, namely the location data.

The data provided is a list of attributes and looks to me like a .dbf file (part of a valid shapefile) which has been imported into (or opened with) Excel. There should also be a '.shp' file that goes with this and which contains the relevant 'geometry' information for each data point (e.g. x, y location).
The .shp file can only be opened with the correct 'GIS' software and therefore perhaps it was excluded as if opened in e.g. Notepad it looks like nonsense?

I would be grateful if you could look into this for me and if possible provide the original .dbf & .shp files if they exist.

Yours sincerely,

Harry Carnegie
