Council house EPC ratings & MEES
Dear Derbyshire Dales District Council,
Please treat this as a Freedom of Information/Environmental Information Regulations request.
I would like information about your council’s homes and MEES enforcements in relation to climate action for the Council Climate Action Scorecards. This information may be held by a housing department or similar.
In particular, please supply me with information relating to the following questions:
1. What is the energy efficiency of the council's homes (managed or owned by the council)? Please provide either a distribution table with the number of buildings for each EPC rating or the percentage of the council’s homes that have received an EPC rating of C or above.
2. What is the number of investigations, enforcement notices and enforcement actions that the council did, related to MEES (Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards) in the 2021/22 financial year.
Where data is available separately for each statistic please provide separately. If only some information is available, please give me that information.
I would prefer to receive information in a machine readable format, such as CSV files for data, where possible.
I look forward to hearing from you in due course.
Yours faithfully,
Hannah Jewell, Climate Emergency UK

Dear Hannah Jewell
Thank you for your recent request for information under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000. The answer to your question is as follows:
1. What is the energy efficiency of the council's homes (managed or owned
by the council)? Please provide either a distribution table with the
number of buildings for each EPC rating or the percentage of the council’s
homes that have received an EPC rating of C or above.
ANSWER : We have a very small portfolio, gradually building up (stock
transfer in 2007). At the moment we have 9 at a B and 2 homes without
valid EPC as they are in the process of being retrofitted or are empty
awaiting retrofitting.
100% of owned homes with an EPC are above C
2. What is the number of investigations, enforcement notices and
enforcement actions that the council did, related to MEES (Minimum Energy
Efficiency Standards) in the 2021/22 financial year. Where data is
available separately for each statistic please provide separately. If only
some information is available, please give me that information. I would
prefer to receive information in a machine readable format, such as CSV
files for data, where possible.
ANSWER : Between 1/4/21-31/3/22 we actioned 120 properties which did not
meet MEES (F&G) and were lodged on the EPC register as private rented.
Of the 120:
We served 34 compliance notices.
20 require follow ups/further action or cannot contact owner
5 with work in progress
9 properties are now holiday lets
7 have sitting/pre reg tenants or the EPC has expired during a long
tenancy
35 are now owner occupied
1 estate in probate
4 exemptions have been registered
28 properties have complied with MEES
7 are empty waiting to be sold or are undergoing refurbishment
1 is let on a commercial ease with a GF shop
1 no longer exists and is now part of the main house ( was a wing)
1 property has been demolished
1 is now a day care nursery
