Dear Hannah

I refer to your Freedom of Information request to which I am now in a position to respond on behalf of South Norfolk Council. My response is outlined below along with your questions for ease of reference.

a. Does the council have a 100% renewable green electricity tariff for all of the electricity that the council is directly responsible for, and is this tariff with Green Energy UK plc, Good Energy Limited or Ecotricity? This includes all electricity that the council is directly responsible for, in council offices and any other buildings leased and managed by the council where the council pays the electricity tariff. This does not include homes owned or managed by the council. If unsure, please state your provider and tariff.
No, the Council does not have a 100% renewable green electricity tariff.

b. Does the council generate and use energy from waste? And if so, what percentage of the council’s total electricity use is powered by these energy from waste electricity sources?
The Council's waste contract is managed by Norfolk County Council. 90% of waste is generated in electricity which goes straight back into the grid.

c. Does the council buy directly from a local renewable electricity source or have its own renewable electricity sources? And if so, what percentage of the council's total electricity use is powered by this/these renewable electricity sources?
Currently ESPO source contract
There are currently solar panels on 3 Council-owned buildings: Thorpe Lodge (approx. 3% electricity for the building), Carrowbreck House (approx. 3kWp) and Frettenham Depot (10kWp). All of these are fairly small solar arrays, providing a small proportion of each building’s electricity demand.

Please note that in 2023 the Council is moving to the Horizon Building, this has a substantial solar array – 183kWp rooftop and 608kWp car ports. This will be a shared building with South Norfolk council.
