Please note that transport to respite units is arranged by Ad hoc
Children*s Services and not by SEN transport.

5 Swindon Borough Council does not employ any drivers. The
contractor who operates the route supplies the vehicle with a driver. We
do pay travelling expenses to some parents to transport their children to
school where an individual taxis would be required. A small number of SEN
pupils also have bus passes.

6 There were approximately 70 SEN escorts employed on
permanent contract and 50 SEN temporary escorts in 2009/10. There are 4
permanent escorts for Adult Social Care.

7 The majority of Day centre transport operates for 250
days a year and each of the routes (in question 1) will run into and
return from the centre each day. For many day centres each day there will
be a different passenger list.

8 Schools operate for 190 days a year and the majority
of routes (in question 2) will operate on a daily basis. The only
exception to this is for children who are boarders and transport may run
Monday and Friday each week (76 trips a year) or at the start and end of
each term with one return trip each term (24 trips a year).

9 The cost for Day Centre Transport for 2009-10 was
£453831 and Special Educational Needs Transport and SEN Escorts 2009-10
was £1,942142

10 Councillor Garry Perkins was Cabinet Member for
Children*s Services and Councillor David Renard was Cabinet Member for
Health, Housing and Adult Social Care in 2009-10.

11 Councillor David Renard Cabinet Member for Children*s
Services and Councillor Peter Mallinson Cabinet Member for Heath and Adult
Social Care are the current cabinet members.
