Council building closures since 2010

The request was successful.

Dear East Sussex County Council,

Please kindly provide a list of the public service buildings (such as Libraries and Day Care Centres) your Council has had to close since 2010. Please provide the name of the buildings and the postcodes of the buildings.

I'm keen to find out how many council-run buildings (such as Libraries and Day Care Centres have been closed where people would have to seek another Library or Day Care Centre (ie to seek the same type of service from a different location which already exists). The reason why I require this information is to get a picture of the effect of any Government cuts to council budgets which in turn is forcing councils to find ways to make savings.

This is an example of the type of information I'm looking for but I require the postcode besides the name of the building http://freepdfhosting.com/4f28e56539.pdf

Yours faithfully,

Lee Jefferson

Dear Mr Jefferson

FOI Request ref: 7820 / Council building closures since 2010

Thank you for your request for information about the above, which has been
dealt with under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Your
request and our response are set out below. Please note that any
information we provide is subject to the copyright and reuse of

Please kindly provide a list of the public service buildings (such as

Please provide the name of the buildings and the postcodes of the

RESPONSE

We have not closed any library buildings since 2010, other than to replace
with a new building. We moved both Rye and Newhaven libraries to new High
Street locations. Seaford library was demolished and rebuilt on the same
site.

We have removed two vehicles from service – a mobile library (one still in
service) and a mobile office which provided access to computers and the
internet.

We can only provide you with a list of buildings that have closed/sold
since 2010. We are unable to confirm whether these buildings were closed
or sold due to service re-provision or Government cuts to council budgets.
This information is not centrally recorded.

I hope that this answers your enquiry. If you believe that the County
Council has not complied with the FOI Act in responding to your request,
you may ask for an internal review. If you wish to do so, please set out
the grounds of your appeal in writing to:

Philip Baker, Assistant Chief Executive, East Sussex County Council,
County Hall, St Anne’s Crescent, Lewes, East Sussex. BN7 1UE.

or by email to him at [3][email address]

Please quote the FOI reference number in any communication regarding this
particular request.

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you then
have the right to apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a
decision. Generally, the Information Commissioner cannot make a decision
unless you have exhausted the County Council’s internal review procedure
as described in the previous paragraph. The Commissioner can be contacted
at: Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane,
Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF. Tel: 0303 123 1113.  [4]www.ico.org.uk
