Coughing and Spitting offences

The request was partially successful.

Rachael Venables

Dear Norfolk Constabulary,

I would like to know how many offences have been recorded where an individual was spat or coughed at, during the following three periods of time?

1. Monday 25th March 2019 - Sunday 19th May 2019
2. Monday 27th January 2020 - Sunday 22nd March 2020
3. Monday 23rd March 2020 - Sunday 17th May 2020

If possible, please break down the data to include following details (if you are unable to provide any of the following due to time or cost constraints please proceed with whatever information you can provide.)

- The date and location of the assault.
- Whether the victim was a police officer or emergency services worker.
- Whether also included in the attack was a ‘direct threat’ of Covid-19 (this is obviously only relevant in the second two time periods.)
- Whether there was an arrest and charge and if so, the age and sex of the person(s) involved.

Yours faithfully,

Rachael Venables

During the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic our practices may not meet our usual response times and it may take longer for us to respond to your requests. We will continue to work normally as far as we can, but, as the situation continues to develop, the focus of the team may need to be diverted to the most important aspects of work, which may place unavoidable strain on our resources that we cannot avoid.
Due to the current volume of work, we are unable to provide individual responses regarding updates on requests. We ask that you please bare with us during this extraordinary period and we will endeavour to provide final disclosures to you as soon as possible.

Please accept this email as confirmation that your request for information has been received. Please note that as a result of collaborative working, your request is being dealt with as a joint FOI on behalf of Norfolk and Suffolk Constabularies.

We aim to provide you with a response by 17th June 2020. During the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic our practices may not meet our usual response times and it may take longer for us to respond to your FOI request. As the situation continues to develop, the focus of our team, and other departments may need to be diverted to the most critical aspects of frontline police work, which may place an unavoidable strain on our resources. I would therefore politely ask that if any request for information can be deferred, then please do so by withdrawing your FOI request. Your understanding is appreciated.
