Costs of online safety provision

The request was partially successful.

Dear Sheffield City Council,

I am researching the costs associated with safeguarding students in line with the Department for Education's "Keeping Children Safe In Education" guidance and the Home Office's "Prevent" legislation. I hope that you will be able to help by providing the following information:

1. Which web filtering product does the authority use to provide web filtering services to their schools? (e.g. Smoothwall Secure Web Gateway, Smoothwall UTM, RM Safetynet, Lightspeed Web Filter, etc.)

2. How much is the web filtering supplier paid and over how long a period? (e.g. £xxxx over a 3 year contract, etc.) Please explicitly state whether the quoted amount is the annual cost or the total over the period.

3. Do the costs quoted in question 2 include anything besides web filtering and firewalling?

4. Are there any additional amounts paid by the authority to the web filtering supplier which are not included in the answer to question 2 (e.g. training, support, hardware, hosting). If so, please can you detail those additional costs.

5. Is the web filtering system used to control internet access for services or parts of the authority besides schools? (e.g. for providing filtered internet access for the authority's libraries, etc?) If so, please state which services make use of this filtering system.

6. Where is the web filtering system physically hosted (e.g. in the authority's data centre, in the cloud, in the individual schools' premises)?

7. What year did your current filtering contract begin (this helps me evaluate how the costs have changed over time for long contracts).

Thank you very much for your time.

Yours faithfully,

Electra
