Costs of monitoring/supporting EHE
Dear Staffordshire County Council,
This request is to do specifically with the Elective Home Education team.
For the sake of this request I am considering the EHE team to exist for 2 purposes, the first being the monitoring of home educated children and the second to support home education in Staffordshire.
I am keen to know roughly how much money is spent on each of these functions.
Please provide me with a list of the activities the EHE team undertakes and which category (monitoring or support) they believe that activity comes under. Examples of 'monitoring' activities might include home visits or the time spent issuing HE cards. Examples of activities which 'support' HE might include running HE groups or drop in sessions.
If necessary please provide me with a list of the activities/functions of the EHE team that they do not consider to belong in either category and a brief explanation as to why not.
Finally, could you provide me with, for each of the last 5 years, the following information:
1) - The total cost of each 'monitoring' activity listed.
2) - The total cost of each 'support' activity listed.
Examples of 'monitoring' costs would include items such as daily pay for EHE staff undertaking home visits.
Examples of 'support' costs would be items such as hall hire for a HE group the LA ran or the cost of paying for a HE child to sit an exam.
If detailed records are not kept then approximate figures are fine.
I hope that's all clear. Please let me know if, and how, this would cost too much for you to look into and I will try to modify my request to assist you.
Thank you, I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Gracie Forster
Dear Ms Forster,
We have not been able to provide a breakdown of figures in the way
requested. However, we could give an overall figure plus an indication of
the split between monitoring and support if required?
Monitoring visits for the majority of families is annually, whereas
support is what we aim to provide for our families. Examples of support
can be found on the EHE internet pages at
