Costs of events at N17 studio, Tottenham high road .

The request was successful.

Dear Haringey Borough Council,

The people and residents of Tottenham would like to know ,what it is costing to have events at the John McAslan architect place on the Tottenham High Road?

I have had many people and residents asking me about N17 studio on Tottenham high road. Most of these people would like to know what sort of events take place in this studio ; how could they hire the room ? , could the public get help in the costs of hiring the N17 studio room?, if so ,what would be the cost to hire the place for other community groups who are interested ? How could people get information and get involved in the events that take place ? , How are the Councillors and the council staff members involved in the events that take place ? What use is the N17 studio to the community as a whole?.

Recently I attended one of the events on the 14th January 2015 and this was about the improvements of the shop fronts on Tottenham high road. The public was asking how many staff and residents were present on that day ?

I saw some council staff members on that day who presented themselves, but I don't remember their names , residents were asking me who they were ,is it possible to know their names. It was a very interesting event and a lot of people should have attended because they keep on asking me what happens in this N17 studio. May be more advertising is needed for more residents to get involved , so that they can get a clear picture of what is really happening in their area.

Most people and residents who approach me would like to know about the recent events that took place in the N17 studio. Who paid for hiring of the Mc Aslam space for the talks to take place? Was it the Haringey council who paid the cost for the place ? These questions are asked because , so many community groups in our Tottenham area would like to know if they could use the place for hire as they do not have enough presentable meeting venues like this one ,to use during the night and day in the area . More questions asked were; who paid for the refreshments and how much did it cost ? Did the council contribute to these costs? if so, how much was the cost?

I also remember that ,while walking on Tottenham high road shortly before christmas, around the 20th of November 2014 , there seemed to be a party going on in N17 studio, unfortunately it was only for the invited guests. The public and the tottenham residents were asking whether there was a special company that purchased the food , drinks or was it paid by the council? if so, could the council help community groups to pay for their food and drinks for their event as well? They also asked me whether councillors and council staff members were present at this event and who they were ? This was of interest to the public because they felt that it must have been a very special event to have them around .

There seemed to be a photographer taking photos, Was this part of the costs from Haringey council or was it hired separately from elsewhere? Most people and the residents in tottenham would like to know if they could use this photographer for their own events if they hired the N17 studio place and how much would it would cost?

On the 24th of January 2015 , there was an open day ,I was invited but unfortunately I was not able to attend , but do you have any leaflets or literature that could be of value for society and residents of this area for the event that took place? They are also interested to know how many people and residents attended on this open day. Were they any councillors and council staff members present ? Was haringey council involved in the cost of the event ?

Many people and residents are desperate to know about events at N17 studio,so that they can get involved as well. As there is a high demand of the public's interest in understanding the developments of Tottenham high road , its events and costs, this is because it has history to make especially after the riots. "We love Tottenham"

Yours faithfully,

Dear Ms Kaluma,

Re: Freedom of Information Act Request ref: LBH/3967915

Thank you for your request for information received on 29 January 2015, in
which you asked for further information on a range of events held at the
N17 Design Studio. My response is as follows, grouped into categories in
relation to your request:

1.       N17 aims and events/ hire

During normal working hours N17 Design Studio operates as a working
architecture studio for John McAslan and Partners. John McAslan and
Partners have a 1 year lease on the building from the London Borough of
Haringey (LBH). During this year the studio will host a series of
architecture, design and regeneration related events which are aimed
specifically at the community. The general arrangement for the events is
that McAslan will host and provide the space at N17 at no cost to the
speakers. McAslan provide refreshments.

I attach a copy of the agreed Cabinet report which provides more
background information on the project and the studio. If you would like to
suggest ideas for future events, or get more involved with the venue,
please e-mail [1][email address] or
[2][email address]

2.       Events at N17 Design Studio

All events are, and will continue to be, publicised via the N17 website
and on the Council’s webpage. Go to
[3]http://www.mcaslan.co.uk/exhibitions/eve... or
[4]http://www.haringey.gov.uk/n17. If you would like to be added to a
database to hear about future events please e-mail
[5][email address]

3.       Launch event on 20th November 2014

The event held on the 20^th November was an invited event to mark the
official opening of the studio. The council commissioned Craving Coffee to
cater for the event (Haringey Council will only contribute to catering
costs if this is a council or joint Council and community/stakeholder
event).   The council commissioned a freelance professional photographer
for the event (if you are hosting a community event and would like to
enquire about photography, you can let our press office know
[6]http://www.haringey.gov.uk/news-and-even...).
Councillors and council staff present at the event included:

Cllr Claire Kober, Leader of the Council, Cllr Alan Strickland, Cabinet
Member for Regeneration and Housing, Council officers including senior
leadership team and members of the Tottenham Regeneration and
Communications teams.  We do not hold information on record regarding
which officers actually attended.

4.       Shopfronts talk by You and Me Architecture on 14^th January 2015

The shopfronts talk was the first in a series of events to be held at the
studio. 6 council officers attended the event but not all were required or
requested to attend in a working capacity. 3 attended in a non working
capacity. Refreshments were provided by the Council on this occasion which
cost £6.  25 people attended this event (excluding the 6 council
officers).

5.       N17 open day on 24^th January 2015

Around 50 people attended the N17 Open Day. I have provided links to
London Borough of Haringey documents that were available on the day. 3
council staff were present and the Cabinet Member for Regeneration and
Housing also attended for part of the day. Links to available documents

Dear Johnson Suzanne,

Thank your for your response to the public regarding the costs of events at N17 studio on Tottenham high road .

The information in your feedback has given a clear understanding of the events that took place at this N17 studio and how the council contributed and it's involvement on the 20th of November 2014, 14th January 2015 ,and 14th and 24th January 2015 at this N17 studio. This included costs of refreshments , the use of the studio, the council members present on the 20th of January 2015 , why they were invited and who to contact in case of any enquiries about hiring and organisation details about the events on this N17 studios building .As seen in category 1 and 2 of your feedback.

It is now possible to explain to the public that John MCAslan and partners owns the lease to the N17 studios building , which will last for a year, and at the moment it is used for the community architecture ,design and regeneration events, that and there was no cost to the speakers who attended on these occasions or who have an intention of using the N17 studio for these particular community events. You have provided John McAslan and partners contacts and website in case the public needs to use this studio for their community events .

It is of great pleasure to know that council members like 'Cllr Claire Kober, Leader of the Council, Cllr Alan Strickland, Cabinet and other Council officers including senior
leadership team and members of the Tottenham Regeneration and Communications teams and housing ' were guests and they were able to attend these events at N17 studio. The public will be very pleased to know that community events in Tottenham are very highly respected . Would it be possible for other community groups to invite these guests on their community events as well ?

In feedback category 1 , it is of great understanding for the public to know that John McAslan provides refreshments at these events however , according to your feedback category 4 , on an occasion like the 14th of January the council had to pay the 6 pounds for the cost of the refreshments because the council /community and stake holders were involved in the event that took place on that day as stated in category 3 of your feedback.

Thank you for the information on the website given about the freelance photographer provided by the council at these events in the N17 studio. It is a pleasure to know that there is a photographer who can be of use to the community ,as there are so many community events that take place and they would like such information for their own events.

You have given me the information and websites of how the public will be able to contact John McAslan and Partners in case they would like to use the N17 studio and this message will be passed on to the public. In your feedback you have also provided other websites that would allow the public to understand the; Tottenham Strategic Regeneration Framework and Delivery Plan , N17 Brochure of 24th events has been provided and also the Tottenham News newsletter. This information will give the public the current picture of what is going on around Tottenham and its surroundings.
Thank you very much. 'We love Tottenham'

Yours sincerely,
