Costs associated with the management and movement of travelers/gypsies

The request was successful.

Oliver Mackenzie

Dear Fenland District Council,
Please provide details of all costs associated with enforcing planning control related to gypsy's and travelers over the last five years (by year).

Please further identify the time spent by staff (planning enforcement in particular) of the Council in dealing with gypsy/traveler related issues, and the value of any contracts let to third parties (including OJ references).

Please also identify all legal costs by year (including costs of solicitors and counsel) identifying if these are recharge costs within the Council.

It is anticipated that the Head of Planning should have no difficulty in identifying these costs.

If I could also have these in a tubular format, that would also be beneficial.

Yours faithfully,

Oliver Mackenzie

Interest Test will be applied if appropriate.  If it is determined that
any material is exempt, you will be notified of which information is not
going to be released and the reasons why.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the Freedom of
Information Officer at Fenland District Council, or email

Dear FOI Officer,

When you say we do not record how much time was spent on individual enforcement
cases and we have not made any claims for costs in any planning or
enforcement appeal.
Does that mean that no costs exist at all, or that there are costs but they are not recorded?

Yours sincerely,

Oliver Mackenzie

Oliver Mackenzie

Dear Fenland District Council,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Fenland District Council's handling of my FOI request 'Costs associated with the management and movement of travelers/gypsies'.

My previous request has not been answered fully.

In my FOI request I asked for "all costs associated with enforcing planning control related to gypsy's and travelers over the last five years (by year)", not just legal fees as my response has entailed.
Whilst legal fees may take a significant chunk of costs, they are by no means the only cost involved.

I am also sending this article for reference
https://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/news...

I am struggling to believe how an area only nine years ago was named the traveler capital of the UK, now has zero costs involved in relocating travelers over the past five years, and that there is no public record of this.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/c...

Yours faithfully,

Oliver Mackenzie

Dear Oliver

Thank you for your request for an internal review on 06/06/2018 which has
been processed and the response from the Head of Shared Planning is listed
below;

Fenland Council does not record how  much officer time (and  therefore
cost) is  spent dealing with any type of enforcement case including
traveller cases. Therefore no cost information can be provided on this.
With regard to legal costs we are only able to provide costs incurred in
2017/18 and 2018 to date as  it is  only in these  years that time against
cases  has  been recorded. In addition, since  we  last wrote  to you, we
have  received an invoice  from a law  firm acting on instruction from the
Council regarding a  traveller case. This  has  been included  in the
information below:

2017/18 - £1086 (internal legal cost)

2017/18 and  2018/19 to date - £5316 (external legal cost –  please note
the work undertaken straddled two financial years)

If after this, you are still dissatisfied with this decision, you may
request the Information Commissioner to investigate.  The contact details
are:
