Dear DEXEU Freedom of Information Team Mailbox,

Thank you for your confirmation.

I wish to record that on the Parliament TV channel, Daniel Kawczynski, Conservative MP for Shrewsbury and Atcham, recounted a recent telephone conversation with the Attorney General in which he asked how much of the proposed £39 Billion settlement with the EU was required legally. The answer was about £8 Billion.

Please therefore indicate in your response which sums, in the opinion of the Attorney General are required legally and which are not.

Yours sincerely,

Roland Gilmore

Dear DEXEU Freedom of Information Team Mailbox,

Your list of possible excuses for not providing the information requested is unacceptable. Your prevarication is evidenced by not specifying your reason for further delay.

A further twenty days for you to respond falls after MPs vote on the government's proposed deal with the EU, due next Tuesday 15th January 2019.

This issue is of the utmost and timely importance to MPs and to the electorate so that representations can be made MPs. The information requested should have been placed in the public domain before now.

You have had adequate time to reply with the information requested. I therefore request an internal review.

Yours sincerely,

Roland Gilmore

Dear Mr Gilmore,
Thank you for your email in which you request an Internal Review.
As we informed you in our letter to you of yesterday, we require further
time to consider whether the balance of the public interest is in favour
of disclosing the information you have requested or withholding it under
section 35 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 ('the Act').  Under
section 10(3) of the Act, a public authority, when considering the public
interest, can extend the 20 working day limit as is reasonable in the
circumstances.
We have not yet determined whether the information should or should not be
disclosed to you.  We hope to inform you as to where we consider the
balance of the public interest lies within 20 working days of yesterday's
date.
Kind regards,

Freedom of Information Team

Dear DEXEU Freedom of Information Team Mailbox,

Your response is long overdue. I believe that to pretend that you have the right to withhold the information requested is bogus. It is obviously in the public interest that this information be made available in the public domain. Secrecy on such an important issue that affects the whole of the British public is unacceptable.

In view of your intransigence, I intend to complain to the Information Commissioner.

Yours sincerely,

Roland Gilmore
