Dear Mr Mantle
Thank you for your request for information of 18 February 2016 which has
been logged as 3818201 and has been dealt with under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000. We confirm that Cheshire West and Chester Council

For the purpose of clarity your request has been reproduced below:
Please can you tell me how much Cheshire West, Chester, and Cheshire East
Councils:
1) Spend annually on Archiving
The annual net budget for the Archives and Local Studies service, which is
a service shared between Cheshire West and Chester Council and Cheshire
East Council, is £410,057 (financial year 2015/16). The costs of the
service are split 50:50 between each Council at year end.
2) What is the oldest file that you have
Not all documents held by the service are dated, and it is not possible to
be precise about the oldest document, but the earliest date from the mid
12^th century. These are title deeds contained within the archives of
landed estates such as the Cholmondeley and Leicester Warren estates.
3) What files you archive (Council meetings, other data, etc)
The service holds a very wide range of archives, including council minutes
and agenda papers, school records, business records, church and chapel
records, estate and family records, the records of local societies and
organisations and personal papers. The best places to find out more about
the types of archives held by the service are its online catalogue
([1]http://archive.cheshire.gov.uk) and The National Archives’ Discovery
website ([2]http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/).
We trust this answers your enquiry.
The Council considers that your request has been answered in full by

disclosed.

specific part of your request those grounds apply to and the outcome you
