Cost to schools of ICT services provided by the local authority

S Hill made this Freedom of Information request to Kent County Council

The request was partially successful.

From: S Hill

Dear Kent County Council,

Please can you provide a breakdown of how much each school is charged for the ICT services that are provided by the local authority, such as the schools' Internet connections, email and web filtering. Where possible, please can you breakdown these figures into charges for each individual service.

Can you also advise as to whether schools have the option to opt out of some or all of these services and keep the money that it would have cost for the local authority to provide them, in order to directly contract private companies to supply these services?

Thank you, I look forward to your response.

Yours faithfully,

S Hill

Kent County Council

Dear Ms Hill

Thank you for your request for information. Please accept my sincere
apologies for the slight delay in responding to you; I appreciate that the
Council has not complied with statutory timescales on this occasion.

Please see the link below to the Property, Suppliers and Contracts section
of Kent Trust Web website which holds pricing information for all EiS
services charged to schools. Broadband is individually calculated for each
School depending upon the number of pupils and bandwidth required, but
again, this formula is also available on the website.

No IT services provided to schools by KCC is mandatory. Schools can choose
to purchase services from KCC or opt for a private company, the budget
for IT services are delegated to schools. Schools have freedom in deciding
which services to purchase and from whom.

If you are unhappy with this response, and believe KCC has not complied
with legislation, please ask for a review by following our complaints
process; details can be found at this link

on our website. Please quote reference FOI/11/0717.

If you still remain dissatisfied following an internal review, you can
appeal to the Information Commissioner, who oversees compliance with the
Freedom of Information Act 2000. Details of what you need to do, should
you wish to pursue this course of action, are available from the
Information Commissioner's website
