Cost Of Transsexual Treatment

Opal Koboi made this Freedom of Information request to West London NHS Trust

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was refused by West London NHS Trust.

Dear West London Mental Health NHS Trust,

I understand that the Charing Cross Gender Clinic provides specialist services on behalf of other parts of the NHS. I understand that other parts of the NHS are billed for the services provided by the Charing Cross Gender Clinic. So, please could you disclose the billable rates for procedures and services. It would be particularly important to know the rates for:

* psychology,
* psychiatry,
* endocrinology,
* speech therapy,
* intervention by senior staff, such as the highly requested ( http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/body/west_... ) Dr. Barrett,
* surgical procedures,
* ad hoc services,
* any service or procedure which I have omitted.

Please could you indicate whether work is:

* billed hourly or per session,
* typical session duration,
* any variations, such as different rates for different seniority,
* any bundled services, such as initial patient evaluation,
* bulk discounts,
* pre-payment schemes.

If some or all of this information is collated in current and/or or historical documents, it would be sufficient to disclose these documents.

Yours faithfully,

Opal Koboi

Dear West London Mental Health NHS Trust,

Whose commercial interests would be prejudiced? The rates charged by the private sector are widely known. For example, Dr Richard Curtis charges £240 for an initial consultation and £130 for subsequent appointments, as stated on his company's website: http://www.transhealth.co.uk/pages/gende...

I also understand that many of the private practitioners around Harley Street and Wimpole Street charge upwards of £200 per hour.

This leaves us with the very curious position that the only party not forthcoming about their rates is the public sector.

Are you declining to disclose your rates because your staff and associates are moonlighting in the private sector and the disclosure of their dayrate would prejudice their commercial interests?

Yours sincerely,

Opal Koboi
