Dear Mrs R Brunger
I refer to your Request for Information of the 2^nd November 2016 and my
subsequent acknowledgment e-mail on this subject.
Please could you provide costings for training a full time firefighter in
Berkshire, and how many trained firefighters are awaiting a posting/job
and the length of time it is anticipated they wait for a full time job.
Regretfully, I have to advise you that I am unable to fully answer your
request for Information as the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service
does not record the cost of training a full time Firefighter, therefore,
in accordance with Section 1(1)(a) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000,
we do not hold the Information you seek.
The above notwithstanding, I have been advised that the Recruit training
course lasts 14 weeks.  Over that period of time, approximately 1400
instructor hours (Watch Managers) are required to train up to 8
individuals.  Based on this, we estimate the cost of delivering training
by our Training Centre Instructors is £4,366.92 (£34,935.33 divided by 8
candidates).  Each candidate will receive £7,348 over this period.  Other
costs not included in these estimates are personal protective equipment,
managerial and training support, cost of equipment or venues.
I hope this information will be of assistance to you, and should you have
any further queries please do not hesitate to contact me.
In conclusion, I would like to take this opportunity to remind you that
if, at any time, you are dissatisfied with the way in which we deal with
your Request for Information, you can submit a request for an internal
review.  Having exhausted our process, you may ultimately refer your
complaint to the Information Commissioner, whose website is
[1]www.ico.org.uk, for final determination.
Yours sincerely,
Emily Houghton

Dear Rose,
Please accept my apologies for not fully addressing your enquiry.
Following completion of training, each individual is posted with immediate
effect to a station, although some of them are not substantive, they are
in a post where someone is temporary elsewhere, e.g. sick, seconded etc.
Therefore no recruit is waiting for a posting/job.
I hope this information will be of assistance to you, and should you have
any further queries please do not hesitate to contact me.
