Cost of Superscript lettering

The request was successful.

Dear House of Commons,

It has recently been revealed that the Member of Parliament for Lincoln, Mr Karl McCartney, has made the demand that his name be typeset with a superscript c on official documentation, despite being informed that it may be "problematic". This request has now been granted; what costs were involved in order to make this possible for Mr McCartney?

Yours faithfully,

James Lock

FOICOMMONS, House of Commons

Dear Mr Lock,

Freedom of Information Request F13-545

Thank you for your request for information as copied below.

You asked for the cost of changing the typeset to a superscript 'c' on
official documentation after a request from Mr Karl M^cCartney MP.

Improvements to systems allowing them to better handle non-standard
characters were brought about as part of the Procedural Data Programme.

Development work on the publishing processes means that  non-standard
characters – for example Ö, î and superscript ^c - can now be handled
correctly for the following Parliamentary papers: the Order Paper, Notice
of Questions, Question Books Part 1 & 2, and Notice of Motions (Early Day
Motions).

Karl M^cCartney is one of the beneficiaries of this work as his name is
now published with a superscript ^c in both HTML and PDF formats. Other
Members with non-standard characters in their names will also benefit from
this project.

The development and testing work was carried out by permanent
Parliamentary ICT staff and took 2 days to complete. We estimate the cost
of the development time to be £422.50.

You may, if dissatisfied with the handling of your request, complain to
the House of Commons.  Any such complaints should be addressed to: Freedom
of Information Officer, Department of HR and Change, House of Commons,
London SW1A 0AA or [1][House of Commons request email].  Please ensure that you
specify the nature of your complaint and any arguments or points that you
wish to make.

If you remain dissatisfied, you may appeal to the Information Commissioner
at Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF,
[2]www.ico.gov.uk.

Yours sincerely,
