Cost of student accommodation
Dear Churchill College, Cambridge,
I would like to make the following Freedom of Information request:
Please can you supply me with figures for the latest five academic years on the average cost of accommodation for undergraduates provided by the college.
Please provide figures for the academic years 2022/23, 2021/22, 2020/21, 2019/20, 2018/19.
Please provide the figures in terms of weekly rent. Please provide me with both the median and mean cost of accommodation, but if only one figure is available then please specify which you have used.
Please provide the data in the form of a table or spreadsheet.

Dear Alex,
Thank you for your Freedom of Information request to Churchill College. I attach the requested data. For the five years specified, we have provided median weekly rent for undergraduate rooms (including both ensuite and non-ensuite). The median, rather than the mean, is the figure we have on file.
Please note that whilst the figures represent the median rent set for our various room types, it does not correspond with rent paid during the pandemic. During periods where students were not in residence, due to lockdowns, rents were waived and various flexible arrangements on payment continued throughout 2020 and 2021. These figures also do not include discretionary rent reductions due to financial hardship.
If you are not satisfied with the way in which this request has been handled, please address your complaint to the Bursar, Churchill College. If the College is unable to resolve your complaint to your satisfaction, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner (https://ico.org.uk/).
