Cost of recalling Parliament to debate Thatcher tribute

The request was partially successful.

Dear House of Commons,

I would like to know how much money it cost the taxpayer to recall Parliament on 10/4/13 to discuss the legacy of the late Margaret Thatcher. I would like to know which MPs claimed extra travel expenses to attend the debate, and how much each of them claimed. I would also like details on any additional costs incurred by the scheduling of an extra session of the House of Commons.

Yours faithfully,

Dr Shona McIntosh

FOICOMMONS, House of Commons

Dear Ms McIntosh,

Freedom of Information Request F13-166

Thank you for your request for information as copied below.

You asked us to provide you with details of how much money it cost the
taxpayer to recall Parliament on 10/4/13 to discuss the legacy of the late
Margaret Thatcher.

The cost to the House of Commons of recalling Parliament for a day is
marginal as most operating costs are fixed for the year as a whole and are
unaffected by the number and distribution of sitting days.  Final costs
for 10 April 2013 will not be known until all relevant invoices have been
cleared, but from previous experience the additional costs are expected to
be around £20,000.

You have asked to know which MPs claimed extra travel expenses to attend
the debate, and how much each of them claimed.

The information you require is not held by the House of Commons.

The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) is responsible
for paying MPs’ salaries and processing expenses claims. Therefore you may
wish to consider contacting IPSA, details can be found at:
[1]http://parliamentarystandards.org.uk/Pag...

You have requested details on any additional costs incurred by the
scheduling of an extra session of the House of Commons.

This information has been included in the answer to your first question.

You may, if dissatisfied with the handling of your request, complain to
the House of Commons.  Any such complaints should be addressed to: Freedom
of Information Officer, Department of HR and Change, House of Commons
London SW1 0AA or [2][House of Commons request email]. Please ensure that you
specify the nature of your complaint and any arguments or points that you
wish to make.

If you remain dissatisfied, you may appeal to the Information Commissioner
at Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF,
[3]www.ico.gov.uk.

Kind regards,
