Cost of Operation Kalmia

The request was partially successful.

Dear Staffordshire Police,

Operation Kalmia was an IPCC managed investigation which arose after the Court of Appeal quashed the convictions of a number of men who had been jailed in connection with the murder of Kevin NUNES. The appeal court judges were very critical of the failure of Staffordshire Police to disclose a 'management review' which was referred to as the 'Costello Report' [https://www.judiciary.gov.uk/judgments/j...

The investigation managed by the IPCC was conducted over a long period and was undoubtedly very costly.

Under the FIO Act I would like to request the total cost of the Operation Kalmia from the time it commenced up until the current date.

Should it be that the figure I have requested is held other than by Staffordshire Police I would be grateful if you direct me to the appropriate authority.

Yours faithfully,

Mr L. Anderson

Dear Freedom of Information,

Thank you for your reply to my request under the FIO Act. I note that your response suggests that the total cost of Operation Kalmia was a little over £300,000.00. The amount quoted suggests that it does not represent the full cost of the operation e.g salary cost, overtime, travelling and other expenses. I do however appreciate that with hindsight my request was perhaps too vague, therefore could I please clarify the period that the figure quoted covers, and what elements of the operation are accounted for within the figure.

For the avoidance of doubt, in asking for the total cost of Operation Kalmia I am asking for details of the total cost, I.e.:-

The salary costs of all officers working on the Operation Kalmia

any overtime claimed in connection with the Operation Kalmia

Any travel or other expenses paid in respect of the Operation Kalmia

The cost of any legal or professional advice someone get or provided in respect of Operation Kalmia

Any other expenses whatsoever incurred or paid in respect of Operation Kalmia

I do hope that I have clarified the extent of my request sufficients for you to be able to fully respond, however should you require any further details, please get in touch with me. Should the figure quoted not included the above elements please provide the additional information.

Yours sincerely,

Mr L. Anderson
