Cost of Olympic Torch Procession

The request was successful.

Dear Mid Suffolk District Council,

Please can you tell me the cost to the council for allowing the
Olympic Torch to pass through the area covered by the council?

Please could you provide a breakdown of the costs such as extra pay
for staff, extra cost of policing, road closures, branded bunting
and other associated costs.

In addition, could you tell me what income, if any, was earned from
the procession from parking, selling advertising space etc

And finally, if you did have any grant funding or sponsorship, can
you tell me how much was provided by LOCOG?

I would like this information in electronic form. If you require
further clarification, please let me know.

Yours faithfully,

Juliet Ferguson

Interestingly, this is nothing like the response I received when I asked Mid Suffolk District Council for a breakdown of the costs shortly after the event.

Unfortunately, I did not post the request via WDTK, as I did not know that it existed at the time.

MSDC have expressly forbidden me from republishing the costs anywhere - suffice to say that they were actually in the range of TENS OF THOUSANDS of pounds!

The response also stated that income was received, specifically from concessions stands at the event.

You may wish to ask MSDC to reconsider their response to you!

They cannot forbid you from republishing the costs. I'd be curious what grounds they are making that request - sometimes bodies try to assert some sort of copyright or intellectual rights, but these assertions are spurious: you can see guidance at http://foiwiki.com/foiwiki/index.php/Lin...

Also, if you have a reference number for the FOI request then Juliet could request that particular response, also under FOI.

I do apologise, but I misread your original FoI request to MSDC.

My comment above was in relation to the cost of the Paralympic Torch passing through MSDC (a reception was held in Needham Market), rather than the Olympic Torch.
