Peter Silverman

Dear Department for Transport,

I refer to the above case recently heard in the Magistrates Court. It was a complaint for a Litter Abatement Order under S 91 of the Environmental Protection Act and was in respect to litter at Junction 1 of the M40.

It has been written up as a case study on the www.cleanhighways.co.uk web site. Full details can be seen at www.cleanhighways.co.uk/case-studies/m40....

The Secretary of State, Philip Hammond, drafted in a Solicitor from the Treasury Solicitor's Department who in turn employed a barrister.

Can you please provide me with an itemised list of the legal costs incurred by your department including the costs of the aforementioned solicitor and barrister in defending this case.

Yours faithfully,

Peter Silverman
