It has come to my attention that many people are using FOI requests for commercial reasons as a way of carrying out market research for their companies. One such example would appear to be in the request of information on diesel misfuelling across over 800 public bodies. This is just one notable example, of which there appear to be many.
I am carrying out a little bit of research myself, for no profit of my own but which I will report on my personal blog, to see if the FOI system should be adjusted.
Consequently, I would like to know approximately how much it cost to serve the request made by Mr Nick Panchaud ( FR2227 ) on the 20th of September 2010.
I will make this request across three councils and take the average cost as being indicative.
Dear Knowsley Borough Council,
I must apologise - in my FOI request I gave the incorrect date and reference. This should have been reference F10/12/012 and the date was the 7th of December 2010.
Dear Mr Coveney,
I am writing in reply to your request for information (and subsequent clarification) which has been allocated reference F11/01/035.
I am able to advise that we do not record the cost of dealing with FOI requests and therefore the information you are seeking is not held.
I am sorry that I could not help on this occasion, but wish you well with your research.
