This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

We're waiting for Zoe Alder to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Arts and Humanities Research Council,
I understand that the Arts and Humanities Research Council has had a lot of contact and cultural exchange with China and Chinese organisations and universities over the last few months including visits to China by Arts and Humanities Research Council staff, paid for by the public.
Under the Freedom of Information Act please could you tell me
1. the number, names and designations of staff who have traveled to China within the last twelve months and how many times they have each traveled to China.
2. how much each trip cost the taxpayer for each person who went to China for hotel bills, flight costs and other travel, accommodation and living costs etc.
3.What collaborations and agreements Arts and Humanities Research Council has secured through these trips.
4. Please also send me copies of all reports, emails and feedback on the progress of the trips in the form of field reports or emails written by the CEO and Directors and other senior managers while in China reporting on progress to their colleagues in the UK.
5. With Prince William's recent visit to China, please also send me copies of any reports or emails written by the CEO and Directors and other senior managers that mention or discuss William
6. Send me details of what Business Case was used to justify the trips to China and what return on investment or value for money calculation was used

Yours faithfully
Zoe Alder

Dear AHRC FOI,
Thank you for your reply to my FOI request with your reference PSU 109 .
I was surprised that only two members of the AHRC's staff travelled to China and that only a small amount of email correspondence seems to have been sent.
Please can you give some clarification by answering the following questions.
1) Did the AHRC pay for any other people to travel to China during the same period as my original FOI request? If the answer is yes, then
a) how many other people had their travel to China paid for for in that period by the AHRC?
b) how much did it cost the AHRC to pay for these people to travel to China?
c) what organisations were these people from?
d) what dates did these people travel?
e) Why did the AHRC pay for these people to travel to China?

2) Please also send me copies of any and all other emails sent by the AHRC's Chief Executive and Director of Research to AHRC colleagues while in China for the same period as my original FOI request ?

If you cannot provide this under my original FOI request please accept this as a new FOI request.
Yours sincerely,

Zoe Alder

Dear AHRC FOI,

Thank you for your letter declining my FOI on the grounds of cost under Section 12 of the FOI Act.

I am disappointed as I understand from the Information Commissioner's Office that you are under an obligation to be helpful and you do not appear to have done this despite my offer to provide more information after you asked me to clarify my request.

I would therefore like request to provide the following information:
1) Did the AHRC pay for any other people to travel to China during the same period as my original FOI
request? If the answer is yes, then
a) how many other people had their travel to China paid for for in that period by the AHRC?
b) how much did it cost the AHRC to pay for these people to travel to China?
c) what organisations were these people from?
d) what dates did these people travel?
e) Why did the AHRC pay for these people to travel to China?

2) Please also provide copies of any and all other emails that report on or comment on any aspects of the trip to China sent by either the AHRC Chief Executive or the AHRC Director of Research to AHRC colleagues (not external recipients) while in China during the trip that took place in March 2015. If any of these emails have been deleted please ascertain whether it would be possible and inside the time cost and limits to have them restored from any back-up systems that you may have.
Yours sincerely,

Zoe Alder
