The request was successful.

Dear Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust,

How much do you estimate it costs the trust, including the wages of the operator/typist of the IT system, postage, and instruction time from a doctor to send out an appointment letter? If the appointment is postponed/cancelled, how much does it cost to re-arrange the appointment, including the costs in my first sentence?

Yours sincerely,

Mike Magee

Dear Mr Magee,

Please see below your request in blue, the Trust’s response in red.

operator/typist of the IT system, postage, and instruction time from a
doctor to send out an appointment letter? If the appointment is
postponed/cancelled, how much does it cost to re-arrange the appointment,

There are multiple steps to receiving a referral, triaging and booking an
appointment depending on how it is received by the Trust. Timings and
costs are estimated.

3 minutes at Band 3 is approximately 66p

2 minutes of clinician time is approximately £1.50-£2.00

Receiving a paper referral letter and booking an appointment:

Admin receive referral and prepare for triage: 3 mins @ 66p = £1.98

Clinician triaging referral: 2 mins @ £1.50 = £3.00

Admin booking the appointment: 3 mins @ 66p = £1.98

Letter Production download, print, envelope, dispatch letter including
postage: approx. 35p per letter

Receiving a referral letter via e-Referral (appointment booked by
patient):

Admin receive referral and prepare for triage: 3 mins @ 66p = £1.98

Clinician triaging referral: 2 mins @ £1.50 = £3.00

Letter Production download, print, envelope, dispatch letter: approx.
including postage. 35p per letter

For rescheduling an appointment, estimated costs would be:

Admin booking the appointment: 3 mins @ 66p = £1.98

Letter Production download, print, envelope, dispatch letter including
postage: approx. 35p per letter
