Cost and commissioning of the Rainbow crossing on College approach A206

The request was successful.

Dear Greenwich Borough Council,

Please can you tell me how the rainbow 'zebra' crossing was commissioned on College approach, on the A206, at the entrance to the Royal Naval College, which firm painted it, and what was the cost of implementing it. Last, was there any public consultation prior to its construction, and has there been any feedback to the council since it was built?

Many thanks for your help.

Yours faithfully,

Ranjeet Brar

foi, Greenwich Borough Council

Dear Sir/Madam

Freedom of Information Request -  FOI 29613

Thank you for your request dated 3^rd July 2019 in which you ask:

Please can you tell me how the rainbow 'zebra' crossing was commissioned
on College approach, on the A206, at the entrance to the Royal Naval
College, which firm painted it, and what was the cost of implementing it.
Last, was there any public consultation prior to its construction, and has
there been any feedback to the council since it was built?

Our response is as follows:

The Pride Crossings, painted in rainbow colours to celebrate inclusivity
and support for this year’s Pride in London events, were commissioned by
the Royal Borough of Greenwich. The work was organised by the Council’s
Highway team and completed (painted) by the Council’s highway team
contractor JB Riney. Specialist paint was used and coloured to match the
rainbow flag (designed by others).

The crossings were undertaken at no cost to the Council.  Third party
funding from a number of local organisations and developers has been
secured which means the cost of all work associated with the crossings is
being met by others.  Additionally, the funding received covers the cost
of officer time for arranging and supervising the work.

The crossings were publicised on the council’s social media accounts, and
feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. Posts on Facebook, Twitter and
Instagram received hundreds of likes and shares, reaching thousands of
people. Posts have also received a number of comments, which can broadly
be put into two categories:

1.     Supporting the initiative / asking if they can be installed in
other parts of the borough / asking if they can be made permanent

2.     Asking how much they cost / who paid for them (we have responded to
people about this)

Further information is on the Council’s website:
[1]https://www.royalgreenwich.gov.uk/news/a...

Due to their temporary nature there was no public consultation but a full
risk assessment and equality screening exercise was completed in advance
of the arrangements being finalised.

Feedback to the Council has mostly being via social media with many
positive comments.

If you have any queries about this correspondence, please contact me,
