All,
Our reference TMO RG1064TD2022 Greenwich and Thamesmead:
Recently, we have received a number of complaints from residents around the Greenwich
Peninsula in relation to car gatherings and motorcycles ( being ridden on the Thames footpath,
keeping residents awake). Reports of racing around the Blackwall Tunnel area and along the
Eastern Avenue.
Residents report loud noise in the evenings ( revving their engines) and causing a danger to
the public racing.
There appears to be a group congregating near to the golf driving range on Tunnel avenue (
not approach ), mainly motorbikes and quads, I believe again general ASB and racing.
They appear to then disperse along the Thames path / Olympian way which is reasonably
close to Blackwall lane.
There appears to have been a spate of late night collisions, often single vehicles leaving the
carriageway, on Eastern Way. This has been noted and raised as concern by the council Road
Safety Officer.
We are deploying officers to engage with these people however it may prove useful to look at
this area to deter them escaping along Thames path / Olympian Way. This in my opinion may
resolve the congregation and potentially reduce collisions and injury. I would be happy to come
down to the area to see if there are any feasible solutions to engineer this out. Please let me
know your preferred dates times ect?
Please could you kindly drop me a line with any returns and feedback on the situation at those
locations.
Thank you once again for all your help.
Kind regards, Matt Matthew Rolfe

Steve,
Though I’ve added this to the Traffic Team’s shortlist, there is no capacity to develop a scheme for
several weeks. One of our engineers will be in touch if the restriction is feasible.

Hello Sean,
Please see the link below. It is footage taken today of a number of motorcycles being ridden along a
footpath adjacent to the driving range in Tunnel Avenue.
We have a number of vehicle registrations and we will be issuing Section 59 warnings.
Can you please point me in the right direction for who to speak with to get a physical off set
pedestrian barrier put in place where the footpath meets Tunnel Avenue.
With this in place it will have a massive effect on the issue.

(The black line in the map image below indicates the footpath being used by the motorcycles that
runs between the Thames Path and Tunnel Avenue.)
