Correspondence regarding Devonport cranes

Response to this request is long overdue. By law, under all circumstances, Ministry of Defence should have responded by now (details). You can complain by requesting an internal review.

Dear Ministry of Defence,

Please can you send me copies of letters and emails since January 2017 between the Ministry of Defence and Babcock regarding safety problems with cranes at 9 Dock in Devonport dockyard.

Yours faithfully,

Dear Mr Morris,

With reference to your two emails of 8th November, please accept this
as acknowledgement of receipt, confirmation that they are being treated
requests for information under the FOI Act and that our due date for reply
is by no later than 7th December 2017. The details of your requests are as
follows:

FOI2017_11291 - Please can you send me copies of letters and emails since
January 2017 between the Ministry of Defence and Babcock regarding safety
problems with cranes at 9 Dock in Devonport dockyard.

FOI2017_11292 - There have been a number of “incidents” with the cranes at
9 Dock at Devonport where HMS Vanguard is undergoing a refit.  They have
been detailed in reports by the ONR  on the site.  The latest reports is
that there was a “safety stand-down of all crane operations on the 9 Dock
facility”.

HMS Vanguard has been in dock since 2015 for deep maintenance and the work
was expected to take four years.

Could you please tell me how many cranes were out of action and for how
long?

And has there been a delay to the work and/or a change to the timescale as
a result of the problems with the cranes.

Yours sincerely,

DE&S Secretariat (Submarines)

MOD Abbey Wood
