Dear Mr Donnelly,
Thank you for your e-mail 4 February enclosing a Freedom of Information
request for Correspondence between Foreign Office Ministers and Officials
at KPMG Chagos Resettlement Study Team, which has been passed to me for
response. You have specifically asked for:
[A]: All correspondence between FCO Ministers, FCO officials, the British
Indian Ocean Territory administration and the KPMG team commissioned to
carry out the recently completed feasibility study into the potential for
Chagossian resettlement of the Chagos Islands since the commission of said
study.
[B]: All correspondence between FCO Ministers, FCO officials, the British
Indian Ocean Territory Administration and any other relevant public or
private body which relates Chagossian resettlement of the Chagos Islands.
(since 2010).
Your request is widely-framed in that it asks for a substantial volume of
information relating to Chagossian resettlement and as such, the amount of
time required to review and prepare the information for disclosure is
likely to impose a grossly oppressive burden on the FCO. It would
therefore be very helpful if you could specify the type of information you
are seeking in relation to Chagossian resettlement. We will then consider
whether we can provide the information requested within the appropriate
cost limit. This would of course be subject to the consideration of
whether any of the other exemptions under the FOI Act apply.
I would be grateful for a reply by 12 February please.
Many thanks
Yours sincerely,
Sheetal Davda
