Copies of sound files and scripts and information about your automated announcements.

The request was partially successful.

Dear ScotRail Trains Limited,

I am making a request to you under the Freedom Of Information Act please:

• 1. Please provide me with the sound files for all of your automated announcements.

This should include:

- Onboard Train Automated Announcements (153/156/158/170/318/320/334/380/385/MK3) voiced by Fletcher Mathers - These announcements are used onboard all of your trains.

- Station Platform Automated Announcements (Ketech system) voiced by Alison Mckay - These announcements are used at stations such as, Aberdeen, Dumfries, Dundee, Inverness, Paisley Gilmour Street, Perth, and many others, etc.

- Station Platform Automated Announcements (ASL system) voiced by unknown female - These announcements are used at stations such as, Edinburgh Gateway, Edinburgh Haymarket, Edinburgh Park, Falkirk Grahamston, Falkirk High, Stirling, and many others, etc.

- Station Platform Automated Announcements (Atos Worldline system) voiced by Karen Cunningham - These announcements are just used solely at Glasgow Queen Street High Level only (and also at Glasgow Central High Level and Edinburgh Waverley but those are Network Rail stations so nothing to do with you) but not at any of your other stations.

You can provide them as MP3 or ZIP or whatever format is most convenient for you.

• 2. Please provide me with the scripts for all of your automated announcements.

You can provide them as PDF or Word or Excel or whatever format is most convenient for you.

• 3. Please provide a full list of all of your stations which shows which automated announcement system and voice (Atos Worldline or ASL or Ketech) is used at which station?

• 4. What is the name of the voiceover artist of the ASL station automated announcements system (used at, Edinburgh Gateway, Edinburgh Haymarket, Edinburgh Park, Falkirk Grahamston, Falkirk High, Stirling, and many others, etc) as all of the others (Fletcher Mathers and Alison Mckay and Karen Cunningham) are well known but i can not find any details as to who this voiceover artist is and her name does not seem to be mentioned anywhere?

• 5. Do you currently have any plans to replace or update or change any of your automated announcements systems?

Thank you very much for your help and i do look forward to hearing back from you.

Yours faithfully,

Brian Davis

Dear FOI,

By law you were suppose to reply to my Freedom Of Information Act request yesterday by 23:59:59 on the 04/05/2022 as that is when the twenty working days limit finished. But yet i have not heard from you. If you need more time to gather the information and sound files that i am requesting that is fine with me but as per the act you do need to inform me of this and tell me which section of the act you are using to grant yourself an extension of time. So i would appreciate an update regarding what the status of my Freedom Of Information Act request is. Thank you very much and i look forward to hearing from you and receiving the information and sound files.

Yours sincerely,

Brian Davis

Dear FOI,

Thank you very much for your recent response to my request.

However a few things about your response have rather confused me so could you please kindly clarify a few things regarding your response to my request:

• You say that you intend to publish the Scotrail station announcements within the next twelve weeks so i just wanted to know how you intend to do this? Does this mean you will publish them online on your website? Or does it mean you will email them to me? Or does it mean i will need to make a new request in twelve weeks to get these?

• So are you saying that the ASL system automated announcements is managed and controlled by Network Rail even though is used entirely at Scotrail managed stations? This automated announcement system is used at, Edinburgh Gateway, Edinburgh Haymarket, Edinburgh Park, Falkirk Grahamston, Falkirk High, Stirling, and many others ones, which are all Scotrail managed stations so i just wanted to clarify if you are saying this system is managed by Network Rail even though they are Scotrail managed stations that this ASL system is used at?

• Also are you saying that the Atos Worldline system at Glasgow Queen Street High Level is managed by Network Rail even though this is a Scotrail managed station? As i do know that Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Central are both Network Rail stations however Glasgow Queen Street High Level is a Scotrail managed station so do you not control the Atos Worldline system at Glasgow Queen Street High Level station?

• Finally in regards to the list of stations are you sure that is the full complete list as there is only 29 stations on the list so there does look to be an awful lot of your stations missing? Also you did not put which system each station uses? So am i correct in thinking that every station on that list uses the Ketech system? It would be helpful if you could clarify this please?

Thank you again for your help and i look forward to hearing back regarding clarification of the information that you provided me.

Yours sincerely,

Brian Davis

Dear FOI,

Thank you for your further reply and clarification. I have made an FOI request to Network Rail to obtain all of the remaining sound files and scripts for their ASL system. I look forward to you uploading your sound files for your Ketech system soon.

However in regards to your attachment document about my question of which of your Scotrail station uses which system there is still a huge amount of stations missing (both Ketech stations and ASL stations) from that list.

For example pretty much every station in, Glasgow, Dunbartonshire, Inverclyde, Renfrewshire, Ayrshire, Dumfries & Galloway, Lanarkshire, etc, seems to be missing from the lists provided. The lists you provided only really cover, Central Scotland, East Scotland, North Scotland, Edinburgh, Lothian, but not the above missing areas. There is almost 100 stations (maybe even slightly more than 100 actually) still missing. So this list is clearly incomplete and unfortunately does not fully answer my questions about which stations use which systems.

For example i know Ayr and Dumfries and Gretna Green and Kilmarnock and many others use the Ketech system but they are not shown on that document.

For example i know Dalmuir and Carstairs and Motherwell and Partick and many others use the ASL system but they are not shown on that document.

There are a huge amount of other ones as well. There is just a massive amount of stations missing on it so my question for a list of all of your stations showing which station uses which system is still not complete.

So it is clear the "LLPA Station Feb 2022" document you sent me is not complete. I am wondering if perhaps you have forgot to send some pages and maybe there is other documents. Would you be able to kindly check again and provide the information for all the remaining missing stations about which of your stations use which system. That would be much appreciated.

Sorry to be a pain but i just need to make sure i have full complete information as there are still some missing stations. I look forward to your further reply. Thank you for your help.

Yours sincerely,

Brian Davis

Good afternoon Mr Davis,

Apologies but it appears only one of the documents sent (the Dunfermline information). I have now attached the sheet which relates to Paisley and should cover all of the stations you have mentioned.

I hope this assists.

Best wishes,

Dear FOI,

Thank you for your further reply regarding that. Much appreciated. However i notice the sound files have all been mixed and jumbled up together and merged in to one massive sound file which makes it very difficult to view the files. It makes it impossible to select just one sound file and very difficult to search through them.

Would it be possible to please upload all of these files individually so i can view each file. For example when i recently made a request to Network Rail for their ASL files they sent me a ZIP file that i could download and then view each and every sound file (which were either MP3 or WAV files) separately. So i am wondering if you could kindly upload something like that instead.

Sorry i do not mean to be a pain but it is just they are very difficult to view in that format you have provided them with hundreds and hundreds of files all jumbled and mixed together. I appreciate your help with this but if there is any way i could get all the individual files that would be very helpful. Thank you for your help.

Yours sincerely,

Brian Davis
