Dear Cabinet Office,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Cabinet Office's handling of my FOI request 'Control Processes'. You are not complying with either the spirit nor the letter of the act and your evasive approach is not protecting public funds or following your own transparency rules.

You have refused to provide the information requested. You have not made it clear whether you hold the information nor have you discharged your duty under the FOI act as a public authority to assist applicants for information. You have correctly stated the financial limit for the provision of responses under FOI but my request was very specific in stating that you should not exceed the same.

You are of course right to point out that you do not have a specific duty to calculate how much information can be obtained for the sum allowed under the act but in the interests of saving public money, rather than a trial and error process, I invited you to spend such time as was available under the act.

I would ask that you reconsider your response for the reasons stated above and either:

1. Respond as specified in my earlier request i.e.:

Please provide the following information on as many recent IT spending control cases as possible, starting with the most recently approved and working backwards, until the resources permitted under FOI have been expended:

Name of Project
Sponsoring Department
Date submitted for spend control approval
Date approved
Value of project
Monthly savings expected post implementation

or, in the order of priority set out below:

2. Provide the above information relating to controls granted in the December 2012

3. If £600 has not been expended November 2012

4. If £600 is still not expended October 2012

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address:

Yours faithfully,

Alex Sawmill

Spell check got my surname wrong on Internal Review, hate it when that happens.
