Continuing Healthcare

We're waiting for Mary Smith to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear Aneurin Bevan Local Health Board,

I am writing to request that you provide the following information:-

1. The number of adult continuing healthcare packages commissioned or ongoing in the last two years

2. The number of packages at ‘1’ where care has commissioned from a private organisation

3. The number of packages falling under ‘2’ which are on ‘Framework’

4. The names of the private organisations from whom continuing healthcare has been commissioned in the last two years

5. The number of packages where care is currently, or was at the conclusion of the package:-
a. Exclusively delivered by registered nurses
b. Delivered by registered nurses, but with unregistered staff working alongside registered nurses on the same shifts
c. Partially delivered by registered nurses working alone and partially delivered by unregistered staff working alone
d. Wholly delivered by unregistered staff

NB: This request pertains to the delivery of the routine, or day-to-day, care within continuing healthcare packages. Please disregard the presence or input of friends or family members and also the input of district nurses, physiotherapists, dieticians, GPs or other allied health professionals (i.e. those who do not form part of the routine and hands-on day-to-day care delivery).

6. The number of packages falling into the category of 5(a) or 5(b) within which one or more of the procedures at ‘Appendix A’ are carried out by staff.

7. The number of packages falling into the category of 5(c) within which one of more of the procedures at ‘Appendix A’ are carried out exclusively by registered staff.

8. The number of packages falling into the category of 5(c) within which one of more of the procedures at ‘Appendix A’ are carried out by both registered and unregistered staff.

9. The number of packages falling into the category of 5(d) within which one or more of the procedures at ‘Appendix A’ are carried out by unregistered staff.

10. The number of safeguarding referrals made in the last 24 months in respect of packages falling under:-

Appendix A

• Assessments of care needs, planning a programme of care or evaluating outcomes of a programme of care.
• Re-insertion of a nasogastric tube.
• Reinsertion of percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tubes or other gastrostomy tubes (except button devices) and jejonostomy tubes.
• Intramuscular and sub-cutaneous injections involving assembling syringe or intravenous administration.
• Programming of syringe drivers.
• Filling of oxygen cylinders (other than liquid oxygen).
• Deep suctioning (oral suctioning tube beyond the back of the mouth or tracheal suctioning beyond the end of the tracheostomy tube).
• Siting of indwelling catheters.
• Giving of medicines not prescribed or included in the care plan.
• Ventilation care for an unstable and unpredictable patient.

Dear Aneurin Bevan Local Health Board,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Aneurin Bevan Local Health Board's handling of my FOI request 'Continuing Healthcare'.

I believe that you may have misinterpreted my request. I am interested only in 24 hour continuing care packages and not Nursing Home placements -i.e. those packages commissioned to provide 24 hour care in the patient's own home.

The number of the types of package for which I require information will, therefore, be relatively small and that information should be readily available (your Continuing Care Manager should be able to assist in providing this information).

I look forward to receiving the information by return.
