The request was refused by Department for Education.

Dear Department for Education,

David laws wrote in TES, “Following discussions with schools, caterers and local authorities, we have decided that it would be fairest to allocate schools a flat rate of £2.30 a meal, based on actual take-up by newly eligible pupils.”

A number of people have raised concerns about the level and methodology of the £2.30 funding.

As a consequence I would like to know which schools, caterers and local authorities were consulted on the issue of Revenue funding for Universal Free school meals.

I would like to know who decided on the list of people to be consulted along with the criteria they used to assess their expertise.

I would like to see methodology and price range each organisation suggested, along with any correspondence between parties relating to this consultation.

Yours faithfully,

Andrew Jolley
