Consideration of International GCSE (IGCSE) for International students applying for Medicine

K. B. Lee made this Freedom of Information request to University of Liverpool

This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was refused by University of Liverpool.

Dear University of Liverpool,

1. Are international students applying for MBChB Medicine at Liverpool University ranked solely on their UCAT scores when shortlisting for the MMIs?

2. Can you also provide the average UCAT score achieved by international students who were 'shortlisted' for the MMI for the last 2 admission cycles?

3. For International students who have completed the International GCSE (iGCSE), will the IGCSE scores be taken into consideration and awarded points in order to rank the International applicants for the MMI interviews?

Yours faithfully,
K. B. Lee

FOI/2020/336

9 September 2020

Name:  K. B. Lee

By email to: [1] [FOI #685508 email]

Thank you for your email of 18 August requesting information from the
University of Liverpool.  Colleagues have provided a response to your
enquiry below.

o Are international students applying for MBChB Medicine at Liverpool
University ranked solely on their UCAT scores when shortlisting for
the MMIs?
o For International students who have completed the International GCSE
(iGCSE), will the IGCSE scores be taken into consideration and awarded
points in order to rank the International applicants for the MMI
interviews?

The selection procedure for international applicants follows the same
four-stage process which is outlined in documents available online. Under
Section 21 of the Freedom of Information Act, the University is not
required to provide information in response to a request if it is already
reasonably accessible to you. The information you requested is available
on the University’s website at
[2]https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/medicine/stu....
Refer to the documents:

·        Liverpool Departmental Supplement Entry 2021

·        Frequently Asked Questions Entry 2021

Can you also provide the average UCAT score achieved by international
students who were 'shortlisted' for the MMI for the last 2 admission
cycles?

The admissions process in place for 2021 entry has been amended and while
we are happy to publish the UCAT scores that were required for interview
in previous years they will not be indicative of what may happen in the
2021 admissions cycle. For international applicants, the average score for
2019 entry was 2654 and 2674 for 2020 entry.

If you are unhappy with the way we have handled your request for
information, you have a right under Section 50 of the Freedom of
Information Act to ask the University to review it; however, you must do
so within 40 working days of the date of this response. Your request
should include our reference number and explain the reason for requesting
a review. Email [University of Liverpool request email] or write to the Freedom of Information
Reviewer, Legal & Compliance, University of Liverpool, Foundation
Building, 765 Brownlow Hill, Liverpool L69 7ZX.  We will respond to your
request for an internal review within 20 working days of receipt.

Following an internal review, if you remain dissatisfied with the handling
of your request, you have a right to appeal to the Information
Commissioner at The Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House,
Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF. Telephone:  0303 123 1113
