Conservative Party Constitution 2011

The request was successful.

Dear Electoral Commission,

Please provide me with an electronic copy of the most up to date constitution of the Conservative Party. I believe it was written in 2011.

Yours faithfully,

Jon O'Hagan

FOI, Electoral Commission

Dear Jon O'Hagan

Many thanks for your request dated 24 September 2013.

The Commission has not always had a policy of retaining a copy of the party constitution that each party provides to us when it registers, so some party constitutions provided to us as part of the party registration process in the past have been destroyed. Our current policy is to retain constitutions provided by applicant parties.

Each party that registers with the Commission is required to provide us with a copy of its constitution so that we can cross-reference it to the financial arrangements outlined in the party’s financial scheme. We are not required to publish party constitutions, and if a party amends its constitution after it has registered with us, it is not required to provide us with a copy of the amended constitution.

The Commission holds a copy of a constitution provided to us in the past by the Conservative and Unionist Party but cannot be certain that it is the current version, for the reasons explained above. You may therefore wish to contact the party to confirm whether the constitution enclosed is the current version.

Please note - In order to deal with this request efficiently and in a timely manner, the Commission has dealt with this request outside its FOI procedure.

Your sincerely,
