Condition of the Cheshire Locks

Dear British Waterways Board,

In respect of the "Cheshire Locks" (Locks 41 to 66 on the Trent and Mersey Canal), and in particular in respect of those locks where one of the chambers is no longer operational, please supply the most recent engineering assessment available for that lock, and the assessment which relates to the decision to take the lock out of service.

Dear Mr Mayall,

Thank you for your e-mail of 7th July and for your request for the following information in respect of the "Cheshire Locks" (Locks 41 to 66 on the Trent and Mersey Canal)

" the most recent engineering assessment available for that lock, and the assessment which relates to the decision to take the lock out of service."

Dear Mr Mayall,

I am writing further to your request of 7th July and my acknowledgement of 12th July.

In response to your request please find attached copies of the:

- principal Inspection report for lock 47 (offside) 7th October 2004
- principal inspection report for lock 48 (offside) 10th July 2008
- principal Inspection report for lock 62 (Towpath) 11th October 2002
- principal Inspection report for lock 65 (offside) 24th March 2010

You have also specifically requested a copy of " the assessment which relates to the decision to take the lock out of service". I can confirm that there are no assessments which relate to the decision to take the locks out of service.

If we haven’t reasonably met your expectations in relation to a request for information or you believe we may not have acted in accordance with the above legislation you should write in the first instance to Kelly Radley Head of Customer Relations, 64 Clarendon Road, Watford, Herts WD17 1DA outlining your concerns and asking for a review to be undertaken.
