Computer Science STEP offer and interview success rate

[Name Removed] made this Freedom of Information request to Imperial College London This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was successful.

Dear Imperial College London,

I want to ask when an applicant gets an offer, what is the criteria for a Non-STEP offer? Many students get non STEP, and some get STEP, so I want to know what students have to know.

My other question is what the success rate is for Computer Science after interview (for an offer), in the years 2018, 2019 and 2020 (if possible)

Yours faithfully,

Dear Imperial College London,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Imperial College London's handling of my FOI request 'Computer Science STEP offer and interview success rate'.

[ GIVE DETAILS ABOUT YOUR COMPLAINT HERE ]

The information I received back does not match my initial query. Maybe it was my wording that confused the team. My question was, what factors play into a student getting a Non-STEP offer?

For Computer Science, there are typically offers containing achieving a 2 in STEP 2. However, some students do not get this offer, and my question is why?

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/c...

Yours faithfully,

Dear IMPFOI,

I forgot to mention, but my query is specifically for Computer Science undergraduate, for all the courses.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Ms [name removed],

Thank you for your email. We replied informally to your request because we thought that the published information might provide sufficient information.

We would be happy to approach the Department of Computing to ask if they have any recorded information that answers your query. Please bear in mind that the Freedom of Information Act provides a right to access records, not to have questions answered.

Could you please confirm whether you are interested in just undergraduate Computer Sciences courses or undergraduate Computing courses. Details of all undergraduate programmes in the Department of Computing can be found here: https://www.imperial.ac.uk/study/ug/cour...

Dear Ms [name removed],

The Department of Computing has advised as follows:

STEP is a very common offer condition for Computing. Offers are made after considering the strength of the application and performance in interview. The admissions tutor will make an offer which may include STEP. It is entirely dependent on the individual application.

Details are available both on the departmental website and college website:
https://www.imperial.ac.uk/computing/pro... (Look at Entry Requirements tab)
https://www.imperial.ac.uk/study/ug/cour...

Please note also the contact details provided if you have admissions queries.

STEP 1 has been discontinued, we are still anticipating STEP 2 and STEP 3 to be going ahead this year from the information we have at present. This may of course change but we can only go by the information we have currently. Anyone who has received an offer this year will not have been asked to complete STEP 1 as it is no longer running.

Yours,

Freedom of Information Team
