Dear Ms Fuller

Further to your email of 29 September 2010, I write with my response to your request for the following information: A copy of the 'structure chart for the team that deals with Complaints/Fitness to practise or clinical negligence'.

I should explain, first of all, that the Office of the Health Service Ombudsman exists to provide a service to the public by undertaking independent investigations into complaints that the NHS in England has not acted properly or fairly or have provided a poor service. The Ombudsman's Office does not handle complaints about Fitness to Practise; these complaints would be considered by the General Medical Council and the General Dental Council. Any claims of clinical negligence would be considered by a Court.

I enclose at the link below the Organisational chart of the Ombudsman's Office which sets out the structure of the organisation.

I hope this is helpful.

Yours sincerely
