Dear Solicitors Regulation Authority,

My original request was for information relating to De Vita Platt. I am not asking for you to identify any individual. I do not believe an individual can be identified as there have always been at least two Solicitors at De Vita Platt and they may have been other SRA-regulated individuals at the practice as well.

I note that in previous requests on What Do They Know, the SRA has responded by giving information about complaints against a Solicitors' Practice, whilst withholding the identity of the solicitor at the practice to whom the complaint relates.

In the matter of Alan Mark Blacker at Jaflas you provided information about complaints about Jaflas, whilst refusing similar information about Alan Mark Blacker. In this instance, Alan Mark Blacker was running a sole practice so any complaints against Jaflas would, presumably, relate to him alone as I don't believe he even employed any other member of staff whatsoever.

I also note that the Legal Ombudsman publishes data of complaints against Solicitors' practices and individual NAMED barristers. irrespective of whether any complaint was upheld or not. I would assume the LeO is subject to the same Data Protection Laws as the SRA, so I cannot understand the discrepancy in the release of information.

I also note from one FOI request in 2012 on What Do They Know, the SRA claimed that they were moving towards registering complaints against a practice rather than the individual concerned.

Finally, I believe that in the case of Alan Mark Blacker, an internal review required the SRA to release complaints data against Alan Mark Blacker personally.

In conclusion I respectively request you to reconsider your refusal of this information, otherwise I will address my complaint to SRA compliance.

Yours faithfully,

Malcolm Girling
