Complaint email address for esa

Craig Gilding made this Freedom of Information request to Department for Work and Pensions This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The authority would like to / has responded by postal mail to this request.

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

I wish to request, under the freedom of information act, an email address I can write to, to complain about ESA in general. Your complaints page contains only telephone numbers and a physical address. Letters seem to get lost when sending them to this address and phone numbers are useless to deaf people.

I'd also like quicker responses so I feel email is a better way to do it.

Yours faithfully,

Craig Gilding

Dear Operations FOI Requests,

Our website contains full information about Employment and Support
Allowance (ESA) and how to make a complaint to DWP and Jobcentre Plus.

-I dispute the above, it doesn't have full information or fully accessible information

If you do not have access to the internet at home, you may be able to use
facilities at your local public library.

-what does this have to do with anything? It's a phone line not everyone has access to and the council offices don't have a minicom despite having a phone that customers can use

We do not currently include an email address for complaints, but we provide
an address for written complaints as well as telephone and text phone
numbers. Our website also includes an email address for members of the
public who wish to contact DWP Ministers.

-where are these email addresses? I've been unsuccessful finding them. I've written to the snail mail address several times in the past only to have letters ignored and/or claimed to be lost.

Yours sincerely,

Craig Gilding

Dear Operations FOI Requests,

Thank you very much for your reply.

The page you have linked to again, still contains only telephone numbers, textphone numbers and a snail mail address.

Unfortunately I do not have the dates of when I have posted letters, but I had posted a letter a little while back informing you of my change of address. This letter was apparently lost when I followed it up via e-mail and I informed the e-mail team that I was updating via e-mail and not sending another letter, which they accepted (why they couldn't just accept in the first place is anyone's guess).

While this request can now be closed as I've received an e-mail address, I would like to see you add e-mails to your contact details. Most companies offer interaction by social media or e-mail, including my broadband provider, so I find it very frustrating that the DWP do not. They claim it is down to security, but I think if a broadband company can talk via social media and e-mail, then this is a poor excuse.

Just a note, I would like to apologise if I come across as "one of those really annoying people who argue about anything" or similar. It is not my intention, I am just frustrated with not being able to get in touch with the DWP as easily as if I wasn't hard of hearing. Now I have an e-mail address, hopefully things will be a lot easier, but I do feel strongly that you should make e-mail more readily available for the deaf and/or hard of hearing.

Many thanks again for your reply.

Yours sincerely,

Craig Gilding

Has the DWP replied to this request via another format?

They sent me a letter saying they offer sign video and the like and they've also sent me emails but not really relating to this. Their sign video details are not easy to find and the page they linked me to still only contains telephone numbers.

Sick of discrimination within the DWP.
