Dear Hammersmith and Fulham Borough Council,

Please provide details of each individual case, during the 2019/20 financial year, where compensation was been paid out to a member of council staff or a borough resident over the past year.

For each individual case please provide information regarding:
-The amount of compensation paid out
-The nature of the claim for compensation (why the claimant made the claim)
-An explanation as to why council decided to pay out compensation

For each individual case, if the requirement to pay out compensation was stipulated by a court order, please give details of:
-The date the order was made
-In which court the case was heard
-The case number

With cases relating to council staff, please indicate which department of the council the member of staff worked in.

If any of this information cannot be provided due to data protection legislation, time or cost constraints, please complete the parts of the request that can be legally complied with .

Thank you for your request for information that was received on 11 August
2020.  Your request has been summarised as follows:
 
Please provide details of each individual case, during the 2019/20
financial year, where compensation was been paid out to a member of
council staff or a borough resident.

With cases relating to council staff, please indicate which department of
the council the member of staff worked in.
 

We are dealing with your request and normally we would aim to send a
response within 20 working days from the date of receipt.

 

However, the government have made a commitment to supporting councils to
focus our efforts on the priority area of social care, providing vital
support for vulnerable people and supporting their local economies.

 

And therefore, they have relaxed the statutory guidelines around the
response times for Freedom of Information Requests.

 

We are extending the response times by 4 weeks, we will hope to release
the information to you sooner, but we also wish to advise you of realistic
timeframes which in regards to this request would be 7 October 2020.

 

We may restrict the release of some or all of the information you have
requested. We will carry out an assessment and if any apply to some or all
of the information then we might not provide that information to you. We
will inform you if this is the case and advise you of your rights to
request an internal review.

 

We will also advise you if we cannot provide you with the information
requested for any other reason together with the reason(s) why and details
of how you may appeal (if appropriate).

I am writing to ask you to clarify your request. I apologise for the delay
in asking to clarify your request.

Please can you provide a definition for the term "compensation" as it can
have different meanings for example in in accounting terms, "compensation"
is very often used simply as a term for pay.
 
I will not be able to take this matter further without this extra
information from you. Please let me know by 11/12/2020. If I do not hear
from you within the timeframe provided, I shall take it that you do not
wish to pursue this request and will consider the request closed.

To clarify, "compensation" should refer to all sums of money paid out as damages following a court order, or money that was paid subsequent to an out-of-court settlement.
