Dear Mr Cottle

Thank you for your email dated 06 June 2013 requesting information under
the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

I can confirm that we hold the information you have requested.

Under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act please find attached the
Trust response.

Qt 1 How much money does the Trust spend on its communications staff?

Total annual staffing costs

2010 – 11: £280,080.00

2011 – 12: £287,246.00

2012 – 13: £287,797.00

Qt 2 How many people does this entail and how many do each get paid?

No of substantive staff (including the Director of Communications)

2010 – 11: 6

2011 – 12: 6

2012 – 13: 6

The highest salary is for the Director of Communications, who received the
following:

2010 – 11: £104,964.00

2011 – 12: £105,564.00

2012 – 13: £105,612.00

The salary information for the remaining staff is subject to a Refusal
Notice under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. The relevant exemption
is sections 40(2) and 40(3)(a)(i) personal information. The reason for
this is that the salaries relate to junior members of staff. While the
Trust maintains that there is a legitimate public interest in knowing
about the expenditure of public money on salaries, it believes that the
release of this information about junior staff could create unwarranted
interference with their privacy, they could be identified from their
salary information, and this could cause them distress. The Trust believes
that the public interest could be met by the release of information
relating to the salary bands of the individuals concerned and the numbers
of individuals within those bands. This approach is consistent with the
Information Commissioner’s guidance, “Requests for personal data about
employees v1.2”. The guidance states that junior staff  have a greater
expectation of privacy than more senior staff and would not expect their
exact salary information to be routinely disclosed.

+------------------------------------------------------------------------+
|Name of Band |Salary Scale (£) |No of Staff per Band |
|---------------------------+--------------------+-----------------------|
|Senior Manager Band 8B |45,707 - 56,504 |1 |

|Admin & Clerical Band 6 |25,783 - 34,530 |2 |
|---------------------------+--------------------+-----------------------|

Dear FOI Applicant

Our records indicate that you or your organisation currently have one or
more open Freedom of Information (FOI) Act requests with South London
Healthcare NHS Trust.

As you may be aware, in July 2012 the Secretary of State for Health
enacted the Regime for Unsustainable NHS Providers (UPR) at South London
Healthcare NHS Trust as a result of the Trust’s continuing financial
challenges.  Under the UPR, a Trust Special Administrator (TSA) was
appointed to SLHT and made a number of recommendations which included the
planned dissolution of the Trust and the transfers of its sites and
services to other local NHS organisations.

I am writing to confirm that the Trust will be dissolved at midnight on 30
September 2013 and other local NHS organisations will take over the sites
and services on 01 October 2013.

This email is to let you know that your FOI request will be passed to the
Legacy Management Office who are bound by the same legislation and are
required to maintain the confidentiality of your records.

Please contact the Legacy Management Office with any queries you may have
regarding your FOI request; the Office should also be contacted if you
wish to complain or seek an internal review of a request. Please clearly
mark any correspondence "Freedom of Information Request".
