Commercial vehicle mechanical prohibitions by region

The request was successful.

Dear Vehicle and Operator Services Agency,

I would like to obtain the number of roadside prohibitions issued to HGVs and LGVs, broken down by UK region, for the year beginning 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2013.

I would also like a regional breakdown of the number of roadworthiness prohibitions (PG9s), S marked roadworthiness prohibitions, and overload prohibitions issued to light goods vehicles and HGVs for the year beginning 1 January 2013 to 31 December 2013.

Yours faithfully,
Ashleigh Wight

Dear Ashleigh Wight

Before I can proceed with this request can you please clarify several
points. You have asked for information relating to roadside prohibitions
broken down by UK region. The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency does
not have jurisdiction throughout the whole of United Kingdom. We are
however the relevant authority for Great Britain (England Scotland and
Wales).

We do not have regional tables as the Agency does not have a business need
to analyse data to this level, but this should be easy to extract for Heavy
Goods Vehicles. The simplest (and most accurate) means of interrogation
would be via Operator Licence numbers, which would give information for
each of the eight Traffic Areas in Great Britain, which have defined
boundaries or else by the three components of Great Britain - ie England
Scotland and Wales. Please confirm which you would prefer.

Either of the above options would produce figures based on the "home
traffic area" of the operator. A very small number of vehicles (ie those
which are not subject to operator licencing rules such as plant vehicles,
agricultural tractors etc.) would not be included.

In respect of Light Goods Vehicles (which are not covered by operator
licences) I do not think we would be able to extract information by any
specified UK region, but I will ask the question of my colleagues when you
clarify your request. Can you confirm at this stage if a single figure for
Great Britain in relation to light goods vehicles would be acceptable.

Dear Vehicle and Operator Services Agency,

A breakdown of the data for Heavy Goods Vehicles by the eight traffic areas of Great Britain would be the preferred option. Also, a single figure for light goods vehicles would suffice. Thank you.

Yours faithfully,
