Coding of SADS
Dear Sir or Madam
Sometimes a Coroner will certify the cause of death as Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome or Sudden Adult Death Syndrome.
Are such cases coded under "sudden cardiac death, so described" or under R96, "sudden death, cause unknown". Or is it a random selection between these two? Or might they be coded under both, thus appearing twice?
Your useful answer FOI00872/Block/QE1 is ambiguous on this point.
With thanks
Trevor Cooper
