Code of Conduct - Universal Credit Overpayments - is it to be replaced?

Andrew Dutton made this Freedom of Information request to Department for Work and Pensions

This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

We're waiting for Andrew Dutton to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

The leaflet COP1, the Code of Conduct regarding the recovery of Universal Credit overpayments, was withdrawn in October 2017. No reason has been given for this.

1/ Why was this publication withdrawn?

2/ Is it to be replaced and/or updated and if so when may this be expected?

Yours faithfully,

Andrew Dutton

Dear DWP Strategy Freedom of Information,

I am astonished.

A brief, accessible - if much in need of improvement - public guide has been taken away and replaced with a 74-page technical guide.

The COP1 was removed in October 2017, when there were (as there still are) relatively few people on UC.
It may not have been accessed because people did not know it was there.

I think there is a need, in the interests of claimants, for a well-publicised, well-written guide to their rights.

I implore you to think again.

Yours sincerely,

Andrew Dutton
