clarification needed on whether new claimants (UC) need to visit work coach every week.

The request was partially successful.

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

I recently made a fresh claim and was told by my work coach that it is mandatory for each new claimant to attend an appointment every week for the first 13 weeks of Universal credit.

However, I cannot find any information that suggests this. 1) Can you clarify whether this is the case? 2) If it is not and is in fact up to the discretion of each work coach, are there any procedures in place to monitor and ensure that work coaches are not just applying arbitrary measures? 3) If it is the case, that it is up to the discretion of each work coach, who is responsible for this decision within DWP?

Yours faithfully,

Andrew James
