Claimants do not have to consent to accept telephone calls and text messages from DWP staff, per Data Protection/GDPR choices?

The request was partially successful.

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

Choices/Consent

Can a JSA or UC claimant choose not to accept telephone calls and text messages from Jobcentre/Coach staff, without getting any UC penalty for exercising such Data Protection/GDPR choices? If JSA or UC sanctions can apply for declining to allow Jobcentre/Coach to contact a claimant via telephone calls and text messages please provide details of the sanctions that could apply and the legislation that would enable such sanctions?

UC Journal

Can a UC claimant use their UC journal to inform the DWP they do not consent or withdraw consent to telephone calls and text messages from Jobcentre/Coach staff, under a claimant consent choices outlined in the Data Protection Act/GDPR? I note these telephone calls and text messages claimant choices would not prevent a UC claimant from getting and viewing messages on their UC journal or by post.

Claimant Commitment

Can a JSA or UC claimant arrange for a note to be added to their Claimant Commitment to confirm they do not accept telephone calls and text messages from Jobcentre/Coach staff, under a claimant consent choices outlined in the Data Protection Act?

This information request does not concern any benefit condition/agreement/commitment for a claimant to telephone the Jobcentre/DWP by prior arrangement.

Yours faithfully,

Frank Zola
