Regarding your request for information  under the Freedom of Information
Act 2000:  Ref:  foi/1008/12

Please find set out below the information in response to the above
request:

Please provide me with an electronic copy of all information you hold
regarding

—      the cost of setting up the Citylibraries.info domain name;

The cost of registering the domain name ‘citylibraries.info’ in March 2002
was $120 (USD) for the first year

There is no documentation relating to this transaction now available.

—      the cost of maintaining the Citylibraries.info domain name;

The current cost of maintaining the ‘citylibraries.info’ domain name is
£20 p.a. plus VAT

Please see a copy of the invoice attached showing the costs.

—      any assessment that was carried out of whether the cost was good
value for money;

At the time this domain was set up, the costs were typical for domain
registration at the time when only a few companies had global rights to
register domain names so it was not an open competitive market. Cheaper
options were around at the time by buying the domain name through a
hosting company, but only at the expense of being tied into a hosting
contract with that company which would not have been suitable.  There is
no remaining documentation relating to this assessment, do to the length
of time that has elapsed.

—      any documents related to proposals to set up the domain name;

There is no remaining documentation relating to this assessment.

     — why the domain name was set up.

The domain name was set up as the libraries and museums departments were
developing a web presence ahead of the corporate website development, and
so it was not possible to place libraries under the ‘brighton-hove.gov.uk’
umbrella at the time.  There is no remaining documentation relating to
this decision making process.
