Chronology and governance process applicable to the Louise Goldsmith press release praising the legacy of Peter Catchpole

The request was successful.

Dear West Sussex County Council,

I wish to be appraised of the governance process that was applied to the previous press release by Louise Goldsmith of WSCC, that praises the legacy of Peter Catchpole.

Please also provide a chronology of the governance process applied.

Yours faithfully,

Martyn lewis

Freedom of Information Act,

Dear Mr Lewis ,

Thank you for your enquiry, which has been forwarded to the appropriate officers for a response. The usual timescale for a response is twenty working days, that is by or on 2nd October.

If for any reason the Council needs to extend this timescale you will be notified in accordance with the relevant legislation.

Please note that in 2012 the County Council adopted a position in principle that FoI and EIR requests to West Sussex County Council and the Council's responses may be published on the Council's website in a suitably anonymised form. This is in addition to the individual response to the requestor, and in line with the Council's commitment to transparency and open data.

Yours sincerely,

Kerry Rickman

Dave Loveman,

Dear Mr Lewis,

Thank you for your enquiry. In order to identify and locate the information that you have asked for the Council reasonably requires further information. I will not be able to take this matter further without extra information from you.

In particular, it would be useful to know what you mean by a 'governance process' in this context.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,

Dave Loveman

Philippa Terry-Eld,

Dear Mr Lewis,

WSCC REF: 943220

I refer to your request dated 3^rd September 2017, which has been dealt
with under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

Your request was:

‘I wish to be appraised of the governance process that was applied to the
previous press release by Louise Goldsmith of WSCC, that praises the
legacy of Peter Catchpole.

Please also provide a chronology of the governance process applied.’

We have now completed a search for the information which you requested and
I confirm the Authority holds information relevant to the request.

It is normal practice for the County Council Press Office to release
information to the local media when changes take place within the Cabinet.
Due to the political content of such releases, the wording will be
provided by and/or approved by the Leader of the County Council.

In this case the Leader, Louise Goldsmith, requested the release and
verbally briefed the Head of Communications on the content. A draft was
produced and sent to the Leader. This was approved and sent to the Press
Office to issue to the media. No one else was required to sign off the
release.

remember to quote the reference number above in any future communications.

If you are unhappy with the way your request has been handled, you may
wish to ask for a review of our decision via [1][email address].

If you are not content with the outcome of the internal review, you may
apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. Generally,
the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted our internal
