Christmas tree recycling

We're waiting for Claire Gamble to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Western Riverside Waste Authority,

I would like to know:

How many real Christmas trees were thrown out and collected from households in your authority after Christmas 2017?

Did you carry out this service in-house or did you outsource it?

How much did it cost to carry out this service?

Yours faithfully,

C Gamble

Frances, Western Riverside Waste Authority

Dear Claire,

Further to your Freedom of Information request received yesterday, I can confirm that Western Riverside is a waste disposal authority and not a waste collection authority. We receive waste from our four constituent councils (the London Boroughs of Wandsworth, Lambeth, Hammersmith and Fulham and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea).

In January 2018 the volume of Christmas trees delivered to our sites per borough was as follows:

• Hammersmith & Fulham – 82.80 tonnes
• Kensington & Chelsea – 71.46 tonnes
• Wandsworth – 170.18 tonnes

Lambeth Council delivered the Christmas trees collected to a third party.

We are only able to provide you with the weight of the Christmas trees, not the number delivered.

You will need to contact our four constituent councils directly to find out whether their collection service was out-sourced and how much it cost to provide the service.

Kind regards,

Frances Devane
